Rare 2200 year old gold coin found in Israel
Ancient coin found in Israel dating back to biblical times. Discovered by US university researchers, the coin has been ranked by Dr. Donald Ariel, head of the Coin Department of the Israel Antiquities Authority, as one of the top five rarest finds in Israel's history. Dating back to approximately 2200 years, the gold piece was minted in Alexandria, Egypt and displays the face of Queen Arsinoe II Philadelphus. Dr. Ariel said, "The coin is beautiful and in excellent preservation. It is the heaviest gold coin with the highest contemporary value of any ... ever found in an excavation in Israel."
